Washinee Lake is the smaller of the Twin Lakes covering 290 acres of surface area. Most of the lake is long and narrow and reaches depths up to 21 feet.

Stand In Three States at Once

Washinee Lake rests in Litchfield County in the town of Salisbury. It is under 30 miles from the Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York tri-point. The lake is also under two hours from both Springfield and Hartford.

History

The area's original settlers were the Mahican Native Americans. Both of the Twin Lakes were named after the two daughters of a Mahican chief. Washinee can be translated to "smiling water."

Fishing and Kayaking

Because of Washinee Lakes's more shallow waters, canoeing and kayaking are the most enjoyed type of boating among residents.

Also, with its shallow and narrow waters comes a large fish population. Some of the most popular fish include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, pickerel and crappie.
